Dam-Funk - Rhythm Trax Vol. 4 - LP
Label: Stones Throw
Genre: Hip-Hop/Electro/Boogie/DJ Tools
Format: LP Vinyl
Known as Los Angeles' "Ambassador of Boogie Funk," Dam Funk represents the citizens of the Funkmosphere. Headquartered in the Culver City section of L.A., Dam (pronounced 'Dame,' as in Damon) spent the last few years cultivating a musical renaissance rooted in the early-'80s styles known as Boogie, Modern Soul and Electro-Funk. While generally known for spinning vintage vinyl, Dams original production demonstrates his own unique brand of music, which hes termed Modern Funk.
Dam Funks Rhythm Trax Vol. 4 is the fourth installment of Stones Throws DJ friendly Rhythm Trax series (preceded by James Pants, DJ Romes, & Baron Zen), and the follow-up to his debut 12-inch release entitled Burgandy City. On Vol. 4 Dam maintains the instrumental theme, displaying his technical mastery of old school drum machines and early 80s analog synthesizers. The soundscapes of this Rhythm Trax contribution provide enough bass to rattle trunks while maintaining colorful melodies perfect for even the most intimate moments.
Rhythm Trax Vol. 4 offers bouncy beats that blend futuristic ideals with early 80s musical principles (think Kleeer, Zapp, Kraftwerk, One Way). Dam jumps back and forth between fast-paced new wavy jams and mid-tempo cruisers with the ease of a true funk vet. The sound of Dam Funks Rhythm Traxx Vol. 4 is not of past, present, or future; it is timeless.
